Pickleball Court Positioning — Where to Stand (and Why It Matters)

Pickleball Court Positioning — Where to Stand (and Why It Matters)

You can have the best shots in the world — but if you’re standing in the wrong spot, you’ll still lose the point.

Pickleball is a game of positioning. Knowing where to be on the court — and when — separates beginners from advanced players.

  • On the Serve: Stay back, prepare for return.
  • On the Return: Move up to the kitchen line as soon as possible.
  • On Defense: Stay low, give yourself time.
  • On Offense: Take the net, cut angles.
  • Key Positioning Rules:
    • Don’t hover midcourt — it’s a “no man’s land.”
    • Cover the middle in doubles.
    • Move in sync with your partner.

Winning pickleball players don’t just hit better shots — they’re always in the right place.
